School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Students in Years 10 – 12 are able to undertake a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship. In most cases, this means that they attend work one day a week (for which they are paid), and are allocated time at school to complete the training needed for the associated certificate qualification.
Employers receive government incentives for employing a school-based trainee or apprentice. School-based traineeships and apprenticeships are available in a range of areas.
School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow students to:
-
Work towards a vocational qualification
-
Fast-track to a career, while still at school
-
Earn a wage while receiving on-the-job training
-
Gain new skills, learning about workplaces, and develop confidence
-
Use the skills they have learnt at school in a real-life work environment.
